I found a bunch of master tapes of songs I recorded when I was in high school and the first year of university. I was writing electronica back then, and was highly influenced by Depeche Mode, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, and other much more obscure bands. I would write the music, and then I’d hand the recordings to my singer. He’d write lyrics based on the title of the song. We did a couple concerts under the name “Momentum.” I think I still have a ticket stub somewhere from our performance at The Opera House in Toronto.

Anyway, I recorded the songs onto a CD and then cleaned them up on the computer. They sound brand new now, in a real early 1990’s kind of way. The only thing that worries me is the lyrics. They are really quite creepy. The songs seem to all be about failed relationships and girls leaving the guy for reasons he doesn’t understand, and him telling her she’s going to come back because she doesn’t know what she’s missing. 😐 It’s strange because I was never a lyrics guy. I didn’t care about them, because I was so focussed on writing the instrumental parts. I’m older and wiser now, so I’m looking at the music more holistically, and I’ve come to some conclusions: I’m kinda concerned about this guy who was writing the lyrics. I hope he’s not in jail for stalking or something crazy like that. Also, I understand now why our songs were not that popular! 😛
