We debuted a new show tonight: The Saturday Night Jive. Because of some promotional screwups, there wasn’t really an audience for it, but that didn’t matter too much. It gave us an opportunity to experiment with the format a bit and just play around. It turned out to be a fun night. We did a format called The Commando, which is a longform made up of a bunch of loosely connected scenes. We ask for a new offer from the audience before each scene. That offer is based on something that happened in the previous scene. For example, one scene was about a guy who was crucified. The “ask for” before the next scene was “What else makes you cross?” We tried to carry common themes throughout the show and call them back as necessary. I think I’m going to enjoy playing in this show, even more so than in Theatresports, which is much more rigidly structured.
