There was a note on the door to my apartment building this morning to remove window air conditioners because of the brick restoration work they’re doing on the exterior. My window air conditioner had been installed since the day I’d moved in about two and a half years ago. There’s a reason for that. It’s a relic from the 1970’s. It’s huge. It fills one quarter of my very large kitchen window and weighs about 120 lbs. The space above it is filled with a large sheet of galvanized steel. It’s not pretty, I know. The stupid thing is that I’ve only used it about five times since I moved in, and there’s no reason for it to be there. Anyway, the landlord’s note on the door was a good enough reason for me to do something about it. Now that I’ve ripped it out, and taken out the galvanized steel sheet, my apartment is about twice as bright as it was before! 😀 Capturing as much extra light as possible makes a lot of sense during these dark depressing winter months. I should have done this months ago.
