I just got off the phone with Symantec customer support. I had to wait on hold for about 30 minutes to talk to someone, but it was an 800 number, and I just put it on speakerphone, so whatever. It was like having a really crappy radio station tuned in at my desk. I’ve always wondered where on-hold music comes from. Now I know.

The girl I talked to there actually sounded like a real person, which was refreshing. She said a lot of stuff like, “Oh, you know what I just learned today? Sometimes our software doesn’t work well with Netscape. So you have to use Internet Explorer.” It was very casual, and very weird. At the end of the call, I think I actually said, “Well, I should get back to work. I’ll talk to you later.”

Anyway, the reason I’m writing this is because of the Irony of the Day. I told her that Symantec needs to develop something like RNAV2003, which they already offer to remove Norton Antivirus 2003 and previous versions. They don’t have anything like that for Norton Antivirus 2004, which caused me endless frustration. She said, “Oh yeah! I totally agree. I had a friend come from central Oregon to help me remove a Norton product from my own computer!” I so wanted to ask her why she didn’t call Symantec customer support, but since she was so nice I just shut up and said thank you. 🙂
