I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot of unhappiness derives from comparing yourself to others. People get upset about not being “as popular” or “as fit” or “as tall” or “as rich” as other people. Wouldn’t life be easier and more satisfying if we could just be happy with what we have, instead of wanting what others have? If we see a need for self-improvement, can we improve in relation to ourselves rather than in relation to others? Is this even possible? I hope so.
Personal comparisons

Yaaaaa …. interesting. I keep thinking of Homer comparing himself to Edison … later to find out Edison compared his inventiveness to DaVinci! Funny episode!!! Titled “The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace” in season 10. Once he realized that even his ‘mentor’ had a mentor, well, ok … he gave up … but still. 😉
I personally find it hard NOT to compare myself to others. I mean, a friend has a game I know nothing about, brings it over to plop in my XBox and BAM, I gotta have it! Now, granted, a certain car or widescreen HDTV would be way out of my price range, and I would still want them, BUT, I don’t think I get depressed about not being able to obtain such things. I DO tend to be happy with what I got, even if i does take a bit of time to think of all the reasons why I don’t really need certain things. I’m here, I got family and friends, I’m alright with being on my own…ya know, doing things on my own when family and friends aren’t around. Ya, life doesn’t suck too bad.
exactly. i don’t think there’s anyone who is beyond comparison, if you’re willing to make the stretch. even microsoft is not as big as walmart. oh wait a second… maybe walmart is the only happy entity on the planet? nahhhh…. 😉
Ah yes…Walmart…interesting that they’ve said if the Canadian workers here ever decide they want a unio they’ll pull out of Canada….VERY interesting I think.
Actually, I don’t blame them. A union would make it impossibly expensive for Walmart to do business. That being said, it’s Walmart’s responsibility to keep its employees happy enough that they don’t want a union.
I’m WAY better than you.
and if by “WAY better” you mean “loser” then, yes you’re right again! 😛
