Well, I’m off. I can’t believe I’m actually getting onto the plane in just a few hours, when it seems like just yesterday I was thinking it was a month until it was time to go. It’s been a whirlwind few days. I had a great party with some of my best friends on Friday night. People have been so great to me, giving me awesome travelling advice, parting gifts, and best wishes. It’s comforting to be reminded that no matter how far or for how long I go, I’ve got steady and unwavering friendships waiting for me back home. Many times, the question has been asked, “What makes a place home?” and I’m now inclined to say that it is the bonds of these friendships that cement a place in your heart to the concept of “home.”

I’m excited about going. There’s just so much that is unknown right now about the next 25 days. But I’m prepared, and at the same time, a little unprepared. It’s the feeling of unpreparedness that’s the best part. I’ll see you on the other side of the world. 🙂
