I watched most of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. I didn’t get to see the whole thing because disc 2 of my 2 disc set doesn’t work at all. Anyway, I guess I can’t give much of an opinion of it. It’s old, that’s for sure. Made in 1954, it’s considered a classic. I was starting to enjoy it, although it was very slow to develop. It even has a 10 minute intermission built into the DVD, in which a couple of big Japanese characters fill the screen. I assume they say, “Intermission.” After the intermission, the film picks up momentum heading towards what I assume is the final battle scene, in which seven samurai hired by a poor village of farmers eventually fights a band of bandits who want to rob and destroy the village. Unfortunately, my copy ends abruptly at disc 1, and doesn’t have this final battle scene. Boo!
3.5 Samurai

That intermission thing is interesting. Kung Pow had that intermission thing and now it kinda fits with the other pieces. It’s a parody of an old kung fu movie. Maybe the whole intermission thing was part of old oriental movies. Or maybe just a coincidence.
haha 3.5 samurai. i get it! (took me untill second time i read it) *runs*
i think the first time i saw the intermission actually included in the movie was lawrence of arabia, which is definitely not an “oriental” movie. 😛 old movies in general had intermissions, but the theatre would play these intermission animations with dancing snacks singing jingles encouraging people to go to the lobby to buy popcorn and soda.
Yes I know that theaters had intermissions back then, but kung pow is the only one in which i saw the intermission included.
It’s also interesting that back then, you could go watch short films at theaters; like 6 of them. Thats how the three stooges were at first 😛
Akira’s work is legendary
