I had fun tonight. I learned how to play No Limits Texas Hold’em poker. I have seen it on TV before but couldn’t understand why it was on TV. It’s cards. But actually, it’s a lot of fun. There’s a mix of luck and and strategy. There’s also some basic psychology mixed in there. I had a good time with it.

So explain it to those of us who have no idea 😛
i found a fun online version you can play…
it’s pretty simple if you know your basic poker hands. you are dealt two cards. there is a round of betting based on those two. then there are three common cards put face up in the middle of the table. you bet again, based on what you think you could get if you combine your cards with the common ones. then there are two more rounds of betting, each time turning up one more common card until there are 5 cards face up on the table. during each round of betting, players have the option of folding, calling (matching the current bet) or raising. the player who has the best hand made up from the two in their hand and the 5 on the table wins.
the trick is to know when to raise, when to call and when to fold. you can bluff once in a while, but if you bluff all the time, you’ll get caught, and your bluffs won’t work. 🙂
Oh so thats hold’em? I’ve seen it a couple of times on TV as well but didnt know it was that particular version. Isnt that the only one they show on TV? I dont remember any versions with the guys holding all cards with their hands.
yeah i think this is the most popular kind. i don’t know if it’s the only kind on tv, but it’s the only kind i’ve seen.
I LOVE POKER.
i swear, i’d be addicted if i had the time and # of people requisite to play it often enough! it isn’t nearly as much fun online.
Woo. When you come over we can play! I have a proper poker set and everything. 😀
