Laura showed me a stone angel in the country the other night. I had to return on Thursday night to photograph it against the starry sky. I forgot to bring my 24mm f1.8 lens, which would have been absolutely perfect. Oh well. I’m sure this angel will still be there if I get a chance to go back another night.

How would that other lens have been different than what you used now? What did you use on these 2?
i used the 12-24mm lens, which at 24mm has a max aperture of 5.6. that means i had to use ISO 400 and a very long exposure (about 1 minute) to get an image. it was really dark. i would prefer to shoot at f2.8 or so and use a shorter exposure or ISO 100. less noise, and less star movement. in the closeup photo i used the 50mm f1.8 lens, which gave me a lot more flexibility, but at 50mm, dof is shorter than i wanted. 24mm f1.8 stopped down to f2.8 would have been a perfect balance. 🙂
